Mobile Online Casino & Gambling to Move Ahead

A report from Juniper Research reveals that annual betting through mobile phones will cross $27.5 billion by 2013. The report titled ‘Mobile Gambling: Casinos, Lotteries and Betting 2008-2013 (Fifth Edition)’ is based on interviews, case studies and analysis from representatives of some of the leading organizations in the mobile gambling arena.

The report has identified three factors that are providing impetus to this surge in mobile gaming. Heading the factors is the introduction of legislation permitting remote gambling in certain key markets. The second factor is the improvement in the quality of handset technology in particular that related to interfacing with gaming software. Both these factors have led to the third, which is increased acceptability of mobile gaming among gaming operators. Just over a year ago the mindset of the operators was considerably negative.

The markets that are opening up to mobile gaming are predominantly European markets. This is because of the proactive stance taken by the European Union. On the other hand The United States is even trying to put an end to the online gambling industry. Even if the new regime in the United States does act in a liberal way as expected, the mobile gaming market in the United States is unlikely to burgeon before 2010 at the earliest.

The Juniper Research report also revealed a sector wise break up. The bulk of the mobile gaming turnover will come from sports betting. The sector that will contribute next is expected to be the lottery services. These are making major inroads in the Asian and Latin American markets. The market wise break up indicated a dominance of Western Europe. Within this market the relative contribution of the United Kingdom will decline due to the growth of mobile gaming in continental Europe

Despite the indication that mobile casinos are not going to be in the thick of mobile gambling in the immediate future, both online casino operators and online casino software providers are setting up establishments to provide mobile gaming services. It is the logical way forward for them. The latest online gambling portal to take that step is Bodog, which currently offers online casino, poker and sports betting services. The Bodog mobile casino offers nine games in all. Five of those are variations of blackjack. Jacks or Better and Joker Poker form the video poker games and Triple 7 Inferno and Sevens and Stripes form the slots games. The casino can be accessed from any place that receives a signal. Most mobile phones, Blackberries and PDAs support the software. The convenience offered by mobile gaming exceeds that of online casinos.
